Botox® Cosmetic is a popular treatment for a number of different conditions including: the reduction of facial wrinkles as a result of repeated muscle movement over time, droopy brows, excessive sweating, Bells Palsy and eye twitching.
Botox works exceptionally well on facial lines and wrinkles, known as “dynamic wrinkles,” which are mainly on the upper portion of the face and forehead. Administering Botox takes only a few minutes but the results can last for many months.
Unlike facial fillers, Botox acts differently by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles in the treated area thus smoothing the skin’s surface and “removing” the wrinkling effect. Injectable fillers actually replace lost volume in the deeper layers of the skin.
How It Works
The type of lines and wrinkles that respond best to Botox Cosmetic are those caused by muscles that are repeatedly over-contracted during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. Botox Cosmetic injections have been very effective in reducing the appearance of frown lines, forehead furrows, “crow’s feet,” lines and wrinkles of the lower face, and even prominent vertical bands in the neck.
What You Can Expect
The injections take effect in a few days after treatment, and last anywhere between 3 to 6 months. Botox Cosmetic tends to work best on men and women between the ages of 30 and 60. The injections are done in the office, and there is no downtime.
