We asked our newest member of our Spectrum Dermatology team Anna Johnston, LME some questions on why she loves the PCA Skin peels and her favorite products from this brand.
How many years have you been certified with PCA Skin?
“I first became certified with PCA Skin at the beginning of my career over 26 years ago.”
What do you like most about PCA Skin peels compared to others you have used?
“Over the years I have performed many brands of peels. I prefer PCA Skin because you see visible results with each peel. Other brands of peels have fallen short of results. Their variety of peels is another example of their superiority.”
What is your biggest selling point for someone who has never had a peel before?
“If you have never had a peel, PCA Skin is extremely customizable for anyone. They have peels for all skin types and all skin conditions. They have light to medium depths peels. This makes someone's first peel experience a breeze!”
How often do you recommend to someone they have a peel?
“If a patient is new to chemical peels, I recommend having a series of 3-6 peels close together every 4 weeks. Once I meet the patient's goals maintenance treatments are every 6-8 weeks or 8-10 weeks depending on the patient's preference.
Chemical peels are like exercise for the skin. They provide skin cell turnover and help with many skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, redness, wrinkles, dullness and balancing of the skin's oiliness or dryness. Over the years my job as a master aesthetician has become more laser based, but chemical peels maintain the results from laser and are a great treatment to have all year round especially during our summer months when lasers aren't ideal.”
Is your love of PCA Skin peels also because of the quality of their pre and post skin care products they have to offer?
“Absolutely! PCA Skin Post Procedure Solution take home kit provides my patients with a peace of mind. Knowing they go home with post care; they feel more confident in their healing process.”
What is your favorite, go to peel from PCA Skin for someone who has not had a peel before?
“My go to for someone's first peel is typically PCA's Sensi peel. This peel provides results without downtime, and I like to derma plane the patients skin prior to the peel and give them an elevated experience.”
What are the added benefits of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a relaxing add on to a chemical peel. The reasoning behind it is that it removes dead skin cells and vellus hair safely from the face prior to a chemical peel. Making the treatment more effective. Dermaplaning is a great alternative for someone who cannot have a chemical peel, but they still want good exfoliation. An example would be someone who is pregnant or someone who for health reasons cannot have a chemical peel. Anyone with a current breakout is not a candidate.”
What are your favorite pre and post care products from PCA Skin?
“This is a difficult question since there isn't a PCA Skin skincare product I don't love. Some must haves? The Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum is a favorite of mine. It's like a big hydration drink for the skin! It smells great and makes the skin feel hydrated and look dewy. The Resurfacing Serum is a must for everyone, it not only exfoliates in a gentle way, but it is very hydrating, leaving the skin bright! Last is the HydraLuxe moisturizer. This moisturizer is the best moisturizer for normal to dry skin. It is a luxurious moisturizer that provides appropriate nutrients and moisture level for the skin.”
